Godzilla is, to this day, one of our best selling games. This game came out fairly early in my career and was the pressure was intense. The game became an unexpected fan favorite and had four different buildings that all needed a complete makeover. The Subway Building was the second piece I designed for the game and is one of my all time favorite mods. The stock building that came with the game was just a plain office building with the word ‘Subway’ slapped on it so I did not have much to work off of. Despite being set in Japan, I chose a New york Subway feel over a Japanese train station because  I felt it would resonate with our mostly American audience way more. There was a lot of experimentation that had to be done with this mod. The game art utilizes almost every color on the spectrum so finding a complimentary color that was a challenge. The playfield features a heavy contrast of cool blues and bright reds,  and both those colors just blended into the background. Secondary colors made the backsplash feel too overstimulating and clashed with the game. Ultimately we decided on Yellow as it worked well with the other primaries but still stood out. I wanted to do some visual worldbuilding with this mod too, so I designed a number of posters that hang ont he exterior of the building. These are all references to common posters seen around New York City, but within the Godzilla canon. Mothra is selling mascara, a punk show and musical featuring Godzilla, an ad for ramen, and a missing poster for one of King Ghidorah’s heads.
